New York: 14 Concepts: Cars of tomorrow, today!

14 wide-ranging concepts caught both our eye and imagination

By Bill King
One of the delights of any auto show is to see what's in the futuristic pipeline. The New York Auto Show gave visitors a tour of the skunk works from the General Motors and Segway collaboration - the PUMA urban warrior - to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG supercar, still in the CAD machine (see gallery).

Closer to your own family garage were the Scion iQ from Toyota, a micro subcompact with street-cruising attitude; the Acura ZDX that's aimed squarely at the brand new BMW X6 M; and the Hyundai Nuvis, straight from the company's California Design Studio and featuring a unique parallel hybrid drivetrain architecture.

Remember, there's not much new that didn't spring from somebody's concept of new.
