World Car of the Year - Golf VI: Honda FCX Clarity greenist

Recipients of World Car of the Year honors were announced this week at the New York Auto Show in the Jacob Javits Centre in Manhattan. A list of 51 candidate vehicles were presented to a international panel of 59 jurors who selected winners in four categories: Design, Green, Performance and Overall.

The 2009 World Car of the Year title went to the Volkswagen Golf VI, which beat out the Ford Fiesta and the Toyota iQ.

The World Car Design of the Year award went to the Fiat 500 over the Jaguar XF and Citreon's C5 Sedan and C5 Tourer.

The World Green Car of the Year title was conferred on the Honda FCX Clarity. Runners up were the Mitsubishi i-MiEV and the Toyota iQ, scoring its second podium finish.

The World Performance Car of the Year was the Nissan GT-R, winning out over the venerable Porsche 911 Carrera and the Corvette ZR1.
