Geneva: New Mazdaspeed3 Debuts: Sport compact totally redesigned

A little larger, a little more powerful, a lot more out front

The Mazda3 line-up got a boost this week with the debut at the Geneva Motor Show of the redesigned Mazdaspeed3 - dubbed the MPS outside the U.S. The new Mazdaspeed3 retains its predecessor's powerplant - the MZR 2.3-liter DISI (direct injection) turbocharged four, bumped up to 256 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque.

The car is destined to employ the RevoKnuckle front suspension from the Ford Focus RS, said to virtually eliminate the unpleasant effects of torque steer.

In appearance, the new grille puts a happy face on the Mazdaspeed3. Other new design touches are seen in the snarky hood scoop, spoiler mounted high on the hatch, new rear diffuser and round fog lights, plus unique wheels.
