New Car Reviews German-built roadster dressed for stealth Geneva: Weismann MF4 Roadster: Classic sportscar looks - BMW gruntSpecialty manufacturer's latest smacks of old school British dropheadsBy Bill King
The Weismann brothers - Martin and Friedhelm - introduced their latest retro-styled creation this week at the Geneva Motor Show - the MF4 Roadster, all in black. Their creations are hand-crafted in limited numbers in Dülmen, Germany. From under the roadster's long hood, a BMW N62 V-8 delivers 367 highly tuned horses and 361 lb/ft of torque through a 6-speed manual gearbox to the 20-inch rear wheels and Michelin high performance tires. But it's the vintage British sportscar trappings - the Jaguar-esque grill, the cloth convertible top piled up on the rear package tray - not to mention the all-black livery and muscular flowing lines that draw attention. A portion of the 250-350 build had been destined for U.S. delivery in 2010, but the exchange rate plus the cost of reengineering and testing to satisfy the uncompromising U.S. safety and emissions standards combined to shelve that export plan for the time being. There's a GT MF5 in the works sporting the BMW M6's V10 powerplant. That's one Autobahn cruiser we'd like to see cross the pond. |
