2010 Models from Chrysler: Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300

More in the Viability Plan than charts and numbers

By Bill King
Two pages deep within the Viability Plan Chrysler LLC submitted to the Treasury Department this week provided a glimpse of the resigned 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300. Why is this pair featured in a document projecting the company's economic future? Chrysler believes the two will prove a shot in the wallet when they are rolled out later this year.

Seems like a lot to put off on what pundits might label business-as-usual behemoths. Of course, Chrysler thinks differently.

The Grand Cherokee is tipped for a fuel economy make-over between 2010 and 2012 - an overall 19-percent improvement projected.

The completely redesigned 300 is to feature state-of-the-industry uconnect connectivity and an all-new, fuel-efficient V6 to compliment the hefty HEMI V8. Both powerplants will feature cylinder deactivation.

Also featured in the Viability Plan presentation was a section touting the virtues of a merger with GM as the best option for both auto makers. Haven't we heard this before? Didn't GM reject this scenario last year? Or is this just a ploy to get Fiat to sweeten the deal?

And speaking of Fiat, two new Alfa Romeo models - the Milano and the Giulia - were announced… in Chrysler's Viability Plan. That's proving to be a good read.
