North American vehicle of the year winners Hyundai Genesis Car of the Year: Ford F-150 is Top TruckTop North American vehicle awards announced at Detroit Auto ShowBy Bill King
The first Korean vehicle - the Hyundai Genesis - to make the finals for North American Car of the Year was voted the winner by a panel of 50 U.S. and Canadian automotive journalists. The luxury sedan won out over the Ford Flex and the Volkswagen Jetta TDI.
The Ford's F-150 was voted Truck of the Year by the same panel, winning out over the Dodge Ram and the Mercedes-Benz ML320 BlueTec. The F-150 previously won this award in both 2004 and 1996. The announcements were made this morning at the media opening of the North American International Auto Show at Cobo Hall in Detroit. Candidate vehicles had to be total redesigns. The judging panel pared an extensive group of candidates down to 14 trucks and 14 cars last summer, further trimming the list in December to the six finalists for the two awards. Final voting after the first of the year determined the two winners - the Genesis and the F-150. |
