GM Auctioning Museum Cars: Barrett-Jackson to deal 250+ car allotment next month

Several hundred

By Bill King
Looking for money in the cookie jar and under the mattress, General Motors has decided to put some 250 or more cars from its Heritage Center Museum on the blocks Jan. 11-18 at the 48th Barrett-Jackson auction in Scotsdale, AZ.

Wisely, the cars are for the most part replaceable should future economic conditions dictate any repurchases. Consequently, the preponderance of the cars are from the past two decades.

However, there are some interesting oldies among the consignment including a 1904 Oldsmobile Touring Runabout, a 1918 Cadillac, a couple of '20s era Pontiacs, a 1925 Chevrolet House Car, a 1916 GMC stake-bed truck and a 1948 GMC Fire Truck. There's a 1955 Buick Century and a 1954 Olds 98, plus few muscle cars - a 1967 Pontiac GTO xXx, a '69 GTO Judge and a '69 Reggie Jackson Camaro Hardtop in red.

The collection also includes several race cars: the No. 8 Cadillac Northstar Le Mans Prototype, a couple of Indy Racing League cars in Pennzoil livery, an assortment of Pace Cars and - as you might surmise - more than two dozen late model Corvettes, dating back to 1989.

Don't be looking for concept cars among this bunch - falls into the not-replaceable category. Still, in this market, there may be some bargains. At least watch the auction on SpeedTV and see what you missed.
