5 Great Little Pocket Rockets

Where to find performance, fun and economy all in one package

Suzuki SX4t
Base Price: $25,000 (est.)
Combined Mileage: 23 mpg (est.)

The SX4 Crossover has been a minor sensation, so Suzuki sent it out to aftermarket manufacturer Road Race Motorsports (RRM) for a Pocket Rocket make-over. Some Suzuki dealers are beginning to take orders - many options, choose your weapons.

A turbocharger jacks the 2.0-liter engine from a mild 143 to 221 horsepower with 208 pound-feet of torque. Our test car had springs, brake pads and rotors, fabulous 17-inch alloy wheels, beefed-up bolstering of the bucket seats, sticky tires and a throaty exhaust system, plus these RRM special touches: a black carbon-fiber hood and the best billet aluminum gearshift knob that's ever been turned by a lathe.

Of the five, the SX4t had the best sound and the highest fun factor. It was a flat-out blast to drive. The windshield pillars block the view of corner apexes, the brakes could use some more help and it lacked perfect precision; but it sure puts a smile on your face.
