Sensible shoes transportation for these trying times

Mazda3i Touring Value
Base Price: $17,765

The Mazda3 is a true world car: Volvo built the body and chassis for safety, Ford the suspension for handling, and Mazda the powertrain for efficiency and reliability. It's a driver's economy car - with PZEV emissions, cleanest of the 5. And it's the only one that's also available as a 5-door, if you need more cargo space.

Like the Jetta, it costs a bit more but offers standard 4-wheel discs with ABS/EBD, 6 airbags and a tire pressure monitor, 17-inch alloys, foglights, 60/40 split rear seat, 6-disc CD/MP3, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls.

Its 2.0-liter engine with sequential valve timing and variable intake gets 148 horsepower and 24/32 mpg. Standard transmission is a manual 5-speed with a sequential 4-speed automatic optional. Stability control with traction control is also optional.

The all-new 2010 Mazda3 will be available soon, so there are deals on '09s.
