5 Great Exotic Cars

AMG has begun building its own cars, not simply tweaking Mercedes sent over from the factory. So it's an AMG engine and 7-speed transmission, extensively revised chassis, suspension, brakes, and some exclusive body panels. We drove it at Auto Club Speedway in California, all too briefly but still memorably.

Perfection personified, by AMG. Zero drama. The car wears its weight well. The normally-aspirated 6.2-liter engine pumps out 525 horsepower at 6800 rpm. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT (Multi-Clutch Technology) 7-speed transmission replaces the torque converter with an 8-plate wet clutch pack, resulting in a gearbox that is part auto, part manual and very good indeed.

Throatiest rumble out the pipes in the game.

Here's the catch: the AMG performance package costs $12,500 on top of the AMG performance car. What can we say, you get what you pay for.
