Dodge Challenger SRT8
Base Price: $42,245
Engine: 6.1-liter V8, 425 hp

This choice is a pure nostalgia play. The Challenger is a car for those who want to relive the glory days of American muscle, but with the period flaws engineered out. Make no mistake, this car will out-perform its 70s predecessor in every way.

The Challenger is a big, heavy car based on Chrysler's LX platform, but the upside is that it's roomy and has a usable back seat. The Challenger's Hemi V8 with 425 hp and 420 lb ft of torque has more than enough grunt to move the 4000 lb. Challenger to 60 in less than five seconds and on to a top speed of nearly 170 mph.

The original muscle cars weren't known for their handling, but the new generation Challenger seemingly ignores its weight and corners very well. Credit the five-link independent rear suspension and 20-in. tires. Still, you're always feeling those two tons.
