THE ONCARS 5 Our Holiday Automotive All StarsDaily drivers exciting enough to get the enthusiast's heart racingInfiniti G37 Coupe Base Price: $34,900 Engine: 3.7-liter V6, 330 hp We've driven the rear-wheel-drive G Coupe a few times, including back when it was the G35 (3.5-liter V6 engine before the new 330-hp 3.7-liter) and it keeps getting better. We've lost track of all its awards. The new paddle-shifting 7-speed automatic is terrific. The G37's engine is mounted farther back in the chassis for improved handling dynamics. We turned off the stability control to see how well-balanced it really was, and it thrived. During track testing, a sensor chopped off the engine's top 1500 rpm. In Sport mode, we had apparently made too many consecutive shifts at redline 7500, even though it was only a few. Supposedly something about high transmission temperature. After three minutes? Boo. Paranoid programming. A car like this deserves better, and needs to be there for you. But it's so good we still give it third. Watch our video Quick Test of the Infiniti G37 Coupe. |
